Gym sessions are designed to complement the training of all our athletes.

Current provision is split into Academy and Senior sessions.  Whilst this is nominally split on age lines, the Academy system is designed to demonstrate physical ability, and where appropriate, any athlete reaching 'Senior' standards in the Academy gym session will be eligible to switch sessions.

Places at these sessions are limited, so please contact Dave before attending for the first time to avoid confusion.

Synopsis:
The session is based in the sportshall at Chatham South School, but also makes use of the outdoor tennis courts, grassed area and classrooms.

There are two main functions of this session.  Firstly, it serves as a complimentary session to all of our other forms of training.  It is used to provide non-water-based Lifesaving, as well as improve speed, agility, quickness and strength across the disciplines coached.  This is done through the use of specific sections of training.  Everyone will perform plyometric drills, and basic strength and SAQ components.
In addition to that, specific sections are designed for anyone who identifies a specific training need.

The second function of the session is to provide an introduction to structured training in an athletic group environment to our younger members - we start working with young athletes from school year 2 upwards.  Also for new athletes in all disciplines, this is an ideal situation to get your feet wet, so to speak, try a variety of different training techniques, and progress to add more Phoenix sessions as you develop an interest and coaches suggest you try.
